Butler Vice President for Student Affairs Levester Johnson has been selected as a finalist for the 2011 Inspire Awards, which are given to individuals who mentor in the workplace or the community.

Levester JohnsonThe awards will be presented during a Feb. 23 ceremony at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Johnson, who called the nomination “an overwhelming honor,” was named by more than a dozen individuals in the Education category. Over the years, he has mentored student government leaders, senior and junior class officers, undergraduates who have gone on to graduate school and professional work in student affairs and professionals in student affairs. He also has provided guidance to numerous professionals in the business, education and nonprofit community.

“LJ’s contributions have made a tremendous impact, as evidenced by his nomination, and are truly worthy of this recognition,” College Mentor for Kids CEO Erin Slater said in announcing the finalists.

The annual Inspire Awards celebrate the efforts of seven individuals and one organization for inspiring excellence through mentoring. All proceeds benefit College Mentors for Kids.

College Mentors for Kids pairs first- through eighth-grade children with local college student mentors. College Mentors has more than 1,500 college volunteers who mentor more than 1,300 kids in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.
