Chapter Recognizes Work of Dr. Anne Gilbert

Butler University’s Pi Alpha Chapter Council inducted new members into the Physician Assistant (PA) National Honor Society on May 13.

Pi AlphaSelected from 48 members of the 2011 Master of Physician Assistant Studies graduating class, the new inductees include Jennifer Burkhart of Fort Wayne; Elizabeth ‘Libby’ Hamilton of Muncie; Kelly Kessler of Washington, Ind.; Katie Peterson of Lawrenceville, Ill.; Megan Schamerloh of Decatur, Ind.; Kristen Steele of Vincennes; and Amanda Wenger of Greenwood, Ind.

To be eligible for Pi Alpha, students must hold a minimum 3.5 / 4.0 grade point average and demonstrate excellence in research, publishing, community/professional service, or leadership activities. Student membership is limited to no more than 15 percent of any graduating class.

The chapter council also inducted Dr. Anne Gilbert of Indianapolis as an honorary member for providing exceptional service to the physician assistant profession and Butler’s PA program. She is the first person to receive such recognition from Butler.

A board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Gilbert works with IU Health. For 15 years, she has served as a preceptor, a healthcare professional who supervises and evaluates PA students during their professional rotation experiences.

“Students have described Dr. Gilbert as being a preceptor who allows independence in learning while still providing important oversight, support and guidance,” said chapter chair and associate professor Don Frosch. “Dr. Gilbert and her medical practice model an exceptional interprofessional learning environment for PAs, medical students and residents, alike.”

Butler University is a charter member of the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for PAs, which started in 2005.
