TIMELY WARNING: Reported Sexual Assault

This Timely Warning is being issued by Benjamin Hunter, Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police

This is a timely warning to inform the Butler Community that University Police was notified yesterday of a reported sexual assault at the Phi Kappa Psi house at 810 W. Hampton Drive occurring on Sept. 11, 2011. The suspect is described as a white male and is believed to be associated with the University. If anyone has any information about this incident they are encouraged to contact University Police Detective Bruce Allee at 317-940-9396.

In the interest of campus safety, University Police would like to remind everyone of the importance of personal safety precautions.

Don’t leave residence hall doors propped open.

Be aware of unescorted visitors inside residence halls and Greek housing.

Do not open your door to strangers.

Report any suspicious activity to University Police by dialing 911 from a campus phone, or pre-programming your cell phone and dialing 317-940-9999.

Do not consume alcoholic beverages if you are under the age of 21, and do not consume excess amounts or leave drinks unattended.

Students who have been a victim of sexual assault are urged to seek support from a trained Victim Advocate by calling 317-910-5572. This support is available to students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More information can be found by visiting http://www.butler.edu/health-education/victim-advocate/

All reported sexual assaults to University Police will be fully investigated and may be presented to the Marion County Prosecutors Office for review. If you are a defined University Campus Security Authority (CSA), you are reminded that University Police shall be notified by federal law. This timely warning is meant to fulfill the requirement of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The Clery Act is a federal law that requires universities to disclose certain information about campus crime and security policies.
