In recognition of Law Day 2012, the law firm of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP is pleased to announce that paralegal Julia Kleinschmidt will coordinate a “Careers in Law” event at Shortridge Magnet High School on Tuesday, May 1.

A partnership between the Indiana Bar Association Paralegal Committee and Shortridge Magnet High School, “Careers in Law” will be the first of its kind to present Indianapolis Public School (IPS) students with a well-rounded perspective of available resources within the legal field. To highlight the diverse range of fields important to the practice of law and the judicial system, representatives from a variety of careers will attend including paralegals, bailiffs, legal software specialists, court reporters, and probation officers.

About 225 students in the eighth and ninth grades are expected to participate in the program.

“As a graduate of Shortridge High School, I am particularly proud of being involved in bringing this mini-career fair to the students,” said Kleinschmidt. “I have high hopes our relationship with Shortridge will continue so we can build on this event to get even more participation and a broader array of careers next year.”

Sponsors for the event include Modern Information Solutions, Connor Reporting, Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff LLP, and Ricoh Legal. Other participants include the Marion County Sherriff’s Department and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IPS’ Shortridge Magnet High School for Law and Public Policy is a college preparatory program for students in grades six through 12 focusing on the principles of democracy, justice, respect and service to others.

First established by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1958, Law Day is a national holiday aimed to reflect on the role of law in the foundation of the country and to recognize its importance for society. This year’s Law Day theme is “No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom.”

A paralegal in the Litigation Group of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP, Kleinschmidt has more than 18 years of experience working on complex class action cases, pharmaceutical product liability cases, and trial preparation. Specializing in technical medical writing and translation for legal professionals, Kleinschmidt works closely with clients throughout the duration of the defense of their case, and assists attorneys in analyzing and evaluating medical malpractice cases.
