Butler graduate Walter D. Bourke M.S. ’85 has been named executive director of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS), succeeding John Ellis, effective Aug. 1, 2012.
Bourke has served as superintendent of the Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Franklin Township (Indianapolis) for the past six years. He completed Butler’s Experiential Program for Preparing School Principals (EPPSP) in 1985.
He has 27 years of experience as an Indiana public school administrator as well as six years as a public school teacher and a coach. He worked as a central office administrator in the MSD of Lawrence Township and Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation, and as a building administrator for the MSD of Lawrence Township and the MSD of Decatur Township.
In 2012, Bourke received the Indiana University School Administrator Association’s Outstanding Leadership and Contribution of Education Award. In 2010, the IAPSS honored him as District 5 Superintendent of the Year.
IAPSS represents 290 superintendents throughout the state.
