Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship Stephanie Fernhaber’s work to reverse food deserts in Indianapolis, Clinical Professor and Director of Butler’s Davey Risk Management and Insurance Program Zach Finn’s efforts to start a student-run insurance company, and coach Dave Schrage’s turnaround of Butler’s baseball team highlighted Butler’s news coverage in May.
The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that Fernhaber, who is on sabbatical, has been using a creative strategy called “design thinking” to crack the problem of food deserts. The technique addresses problems by first examining the situation that creates them and consulting with the people who suffer from their effects.
In an interview with the Captive Insurance Times, Finn explains how Butler’s new MJ Student-Run Insurance Company could become the model for risk and insurance education programs.
Schrage’s reversal of Butler baseball’s fortunes–from 14-40 in 2016 to 31-20 this season–caught the attention of both the Indianapolis Star and the Indianapolis Business Journal.
