Current position and responsibilities: Features editor and columnist for the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel. I started at the News Sentinel in 1984 as public service director, running the newspaper’s community events. I joined the features department in 1997 and became features editor in 2000. I write a biweekly column on family finances.

Major project/achievement of the past year: Hmmm. Surviving the newspaper industry another year? Seriously, we made some big strides into social media, video production and other new technology.

Why did you choose a career in journalism: I wanted to be a journalist (especially in features) since middle school.

How did Butler prepare you for your career: It gave me the degree I needed, and some good practical writing experience.

Most memorable experience(s) at Butler: Forming some strong friendships that have lasted through the years.
