On Saturday, Nov. 5, the city of Indianapolis will hold the Monumental Marathon, a 5K race that will run through the Butler University campus causing road congestion and parking restrictions from 9 a.m. to noon.

People visiting campus for Family Weekend, Scholarship Breakfast, White Coat Ceremony and the football game and tailgate, should follow one of the below driving routes to campus and park in one of the designated areas . Arriving to campus before 9 a.m. is strongly recommended.

Suggested Routes to Campus

From the Northwest (BEST ROUTE INTO CAMPUS during peak run time*)

From 86th St. take Michigan Rd. south to Kessler Blvd. Proceed east on Kessler to N. Illinois St. Proceed south on Illinois St. to 52nd St. (or take Westfield Blvd.) to Boulevard Place. Proceed south on Boulevard Place into campus arriving near Hinkle Fieldhouse.

From the West

Take West 38th St., but expect major delays at the intersection of 38th and Michigan Rd. Officers will allow traffic to flow westbound during large breaks. Once past the delay, proceed to Clarendon Rd. Proceed north on Clarendon Rd. to Hampton Dr. Additional delays should be expected near Hampton and Clarendon during the peak run time*.

From the East and South

There is no good way to approach from the East or South, as the race route crosses these streets and will box traffic inside.

Parking on Campus

Street parking along Hampton Dr. will be closed. The rest of Butler’s parking lots will remain open. Sixty spaces in the Christian Theological Seminary Chapel Lot (1000 W. 42nd Street) are also available. The parking map shows these lots, as well as recommended parking locations for attendees of the White Coat Ceremony and football game and tailgating.
