On Wednesday April 18, 2012 at 1:36 a.m., a student reported to the Butler University Police Department they were a victim of a residential armed robbery occurring at their off-campus home in the 4600 Blk N. Rookwood Avenue. This area is south of Hinkle Fieldhouse.
The Butler University student walked to the University Police department and reported that he was asleep in his home when he heard someone enter the residence. He described one suspect as a black male dressed in all black clothing, wearing a mask, with a handgun. The suspect was talking to another suspect but the student could not see that individual.
The two unknown suspects stole several items from the home, including the student’s vehicle. The student advised he was told to leave the residence. The student heard his vehicle get started and advised officers the suspects fled in his vehicle southbound away from campus.
The reporting of this incident to University Police was delayed by approximately 20 minutes as the victim walked to BUPD to report.
University Police detective Bruce Allee responded to coordinate the investigation. If anyone has information in regards to this incident they are encouraged to contact him at 317-940-8856.
Students, faculty, and staff are reminded that BUPD offers 24 hour transportation escorts. Additionally, the University Police ask that all suspicious activity be reported by calling 317-940-9999 or 911.
