This Timely Warning is being issued on behalf of Benjamin Hunter, Chief of Staff and Executive Director of Public Safety – Office of the President.
On Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 7:50 p.m., a Butler student came to the police department to report that at around 12:30 a.m. (or about 19 hours earlier) he was walking southbound near 42nd and Clarendon Road when he was approached by a black male described as 6′ 5” tall, buzz haircut, earrings in both ears, and wearing a white long sleeve T-shirt or sweatshirt and blue jeans. The suspect forcibly took the student’s wallet, removed $17 and tossed the wallet on the ground.
This Timely Warning is intended to make the campus community aware of a specific incident. Timely Warnings may be posted on the University Police Department’s website only when an incident does not constitute use of the Emergency Notification System (DawgAlert). This Timely Warning is meant to fulfill the requirement of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The Clery Act is a federal law that requires universities to disclose certain information about campus crime and security policies.
